So I haven't posted on my blog for a little bit, but i'm back with color this time. I did this pretty quickly. What takes me a little bit more time is fussing with the final look, all the tiny brightness, contrast, fx tweaks. I had to tell myself to just leave it alone since this was meant to be a fast paint sketch. I hope you like it. It turned out pretty nicely.

Oh this was based off a photo I found on flickr...I'll post that later.

These were both done while waiting around for my dance classes to start. (Side note: I teach hip hop dance at the Element Dance Studio here in Hillsboro, OR). I love popping so the bottom image was inspired by that. The top one was just a random thangy thang. I hope you enjoy.

I seriously need to scan a good amount of drawings along with saving a bunch of sketches I've done digitally so I can post them. The more I slack on it, the more it takes me longer to gather the drawings... So hopefully this post will start snow balling...

The handsome Ian Abando and myself have started a collaborative sketch exercise where we rough in circles and fill it in. This first one I drew the torso (jacket and scarf), and Ian drew the head and legs (head, skirt, and legs). We call this fun little thing "DOOODLE"

This was our next attempt. We decided to do 4 circles so we both could draw two portions of the character. I drew the torso all the way down to the thigh Ian drew the head and shin/feet. We really didn't stay within the circles but this was more of a rough guide...more to come.

Something new sort of... Just a character shape warm up. I find it hard to just leave a line drawing alone without adding some kind of texture somewhere, I just find it empty without a bit of grit. It can be a bit much sometimes, but I dunno....

color study process.

So I've never done any process paintings but decided to do this more for myself to figure stuff out. I need to learn more about color and lighting and rendering. I grabbed a photo which was from (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sabroadbank/3366596538/). I did a cartoony girl drawing first nothing to fancy. Then I went into photoshop and simply color sampled straight from the photo and applied the colors to the drawing. This was all a learning tool for myself to help see exactly what was happening to the colors according to where the light was and colors according to the different areas of the face.

The end image I added blur and a couple adjustment layers...curves for contrast and hue/saturation for punching colors out. I also kept the lines in because I was really focused on color.

...need to learn more. I could tell you what I was thinking during this process but I am currently to lazy to type it all out. maybe later.

Bumpy Edge Line Brushes PS

I've been asked by a couple people about some of the bumpy edge lines (pen and ink type lines) I've messed around with in photoshop. I have a download link of some of the brushes I've messed around with the most. Feel free to adjust the brush settings to your needs...

So I never do super heros but was inspired yesterday. this is a quick sketch and paint of Batman. I didn't really clean up the drawing or the painting really, just kept everything pretty loose and just tried to make it dirty and gritty. I think it worked out.
